Tips on Bringing Home Your New Kitten:
Dianysus kittens are not raised in cages! They have spent plenty of time running and playing around the house with other cats and two dogs, so they should have no problem adjusting to other pets in your home. They may hiss and get poofy tails when you introduce them, but your animals will soon get used to each other and become friends. In fact, one of your kitten’s favorite playthings was the wagging, fluffy tale of our Sheltie. Kittens are much like human babies. For the first few nights, maybe even for the first week, your kitten may cry a lot as he misses his litter mates.
Dianysus kittens love their humans. Their purrers have been thoroughly tested in the laps of our family and will start up the minute you pet or scratch your kitten. They like to jump up on laps, so be prepared!
All Dianysus kittens have been brought up on Royal Canin Kitten, an excellent choice for good health, long life, beautiful fur—and they just love its taste! For wet food, we also use Friskies Pate or Iams single serve chicken for kittens. Adults get Natural Balance duck and pea. Cats will not overeat, so you can leave their bowl full of dry food all day long. Please introduce new foods gradually or your kitten will get diarrhea ; perhaps mix new foods ¼ new to ¾ old and gradually increase the amount of new food. Very few cats drink milk! In fact, most are lactose intolerant. They should have a bowl of fresh water next to their food dish.
We cannot stress too much the need for your kitten to remain a house pet. It is very dangerous to allow cats to live outside. Transmittable diseases and predators of all kinds lurk out of doors. Your kitten is an important, loving part of your family, and it should stay safely indoors. Your kitten’s mother has taught it to use a litter pan, so once you show your kitten its location, there should be very few, if any, accidents.
Although there are many cute collars available at the pet store, we at Dianysus Cattery do not recommend the use of collars for your kitten, as they can easily get caught on things in places your kitten might like to play, and could cause harm.
Your kitten loves nooks and crannies, crawling into the sofa if he can find a torn spot in the bottom lining, dangling fingers and wires, running water, windows, shelves, climbing on screens, soft fluffy things, and warm spots, so it would be wise to try to look at your home through a cat’s eyes and keep one step ahead of your little friend. Get in the habit of closing the hatches on washing machines, dryers, hot tubs, and commodes. Buy a good climbing tree and scratching post--it may save your furniture. Put your favorite knick-knacks behind glass or secure them to their shelves with ticky tack to prevent damage. Keep medicines and chemicals secure. Animals are especially fond of anti-freeze, which is highly poisonous. Plastic wraps of all kinds can be dangerous, and be especially careful of your Christmas tree. Do not decorate your tree with tinsel!
Here at Dianysus Cattery, we love every kitten we sell and we hope you and your new friend will share a long and happy relationship. If you have any questions about your kitten, especially during those critical first weeks of getting to know each other, please feel free to e-mail Diane at dianysuscattery@yahoo.com
